We couldn't be more excited to yet again offer this Rare Breed from San Jeronimo Miramar, Typica San Roque. Years ago we roasted the first few pounds they produced of this rare breed and it was received so well that San Jeronimo planted more of this special variety and production has really taken off the past couple years.

The history and lineage of this version of the beloved typica cultivar is a bit unclear but is believed to have its roots as a seed selection of Typica from Kenya that ended up in Costa Rica and later given the name San Roque before being brought to Guatemala. Whatever its history, it was destined to end up in the hands of the adventurous coffee producers of FSJM and ultimately, in your cup.

ABOUT THE BRESSANI FAMILY  & FINCA SAN JERONIMO MIRAMAR

The Bressani family has operated the beautiful Finca San Jeronimo Miramar for over 100 years, and to just call it a coffee farm would be selling it short. Not only are some fantastic coffees being grown and cared for there, but also jersey dairy cows, honey bees, and exotic tropical fruits. Sitting high above all of this is a gorgeous, protected natural reserve and the forest is the lifeblood of the farm with its volcanic terrain feeding the farm’s natural freshwater springs and powers the farm’s entire processing facilities with hydroelectric power.

Our relationship with the Bressanis started back in 2013 on the grounds of Finca San Jeronimo. Since then, we’ve had the pleasure of working directly with their farm and mill management team, helping them develop an understanding of coffee quality once it hits the cup and give them more purpose behind their already stellar experimentation, processes, and logistics operations. Because of this relationship, we continue to see improvements in quality each year and will be continuing to taste and share their latest experiments and variety selections from the wonderful farm.
