Within the quiet daily rhythm of the Price Hill neighborhood of Cincinnati, a symphony of transformation is taking place. MYCincinnati is an innovative program, whose mission is to use ensemble-based music as a vehicle for youth development and community engagement by providing children with access to free, intensive, high-quality, music education. More than just an extracurricular activity, the commitment to teaching and learning music together can dramatically alter young lives and shape communities.
MYCincinnati is rooted in the El Sistema model, a globally recognized philosophy of music education that originated in Venezuela. Following thoroughly holistic core values, the goal is to create a vibrant youth orchestra that will be an audible symbol of harmony in the community, as well as a source of pride. By providing free, high-quality music education to children, MYCincinnati aims to build confidence, discipline, and a sense of belonging while fostering creativity and teamwork.
The program operates after school, offering children the chance to immerse themselves in a structured environment where they can explore their new and blossoming musical talents. Participants receive lessons in all manor of instruments, and they also engage in group ensemble practices. For many of these children, it's their first exposure to classical music and the discipline required to master an instrument.
